The Carolina Panthers are confident that its quarterback Matt Moore can win the matchup. The Giants fans also may have painfully recalled that he has done it before. Last season, the highlight of his career came when the Panthers closed out Giants Stadium on Dec. 27 with a 41-9 thumping. In the match, the Giants were eliminated from the playoff contention. Moore was 15 that day for 20 for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns.

26-year-old Moore is an undrafted free-agent waiver pickup in 2007 and to the start of 2009 he was a third-string QB.

Marty Hurney, the General Manager of Panthers, said: “I think Joe Gibbs had an old saying: ‘you evaluate quarterbacks when the lights come on… And every time Matt’s had a chance, an opportunity to play for us in games, he’s stepped up and done a great job. Whether it be his rookie year or last year, he’s won games for us. And I think that he has the confidence of everybody in the building.”He said this week after a practice referring to the former Redskins coach.

Well, to reward Moore there was not enough confidence. He has only signed a one-year dear for $3 million. It is to be seen how he performs.

Carolina Panthers insisted earlier of becoming younger this offseason, and they are doing it after the roster of regular season comes out with players of their choice.

35 players of the Panthers were picked in the draft, which includes 18 of their 22 starters. Total there are 53 players.

For some time before they had been criticized for being cheap this offseason as they did not engaged free agent spending.

Marty Hurney, general manager of Carolina Panthers, said that he is considering it to be a win to keep 9 of the 10 picks from this year’s draft.

He said, “I think it’s hard to win, I guess,” Hurney said. “If we hadn’t kept nine of 10 and we’d have kept two of 10 then we’d have been criticized for not drafting well. It’s hard to win sometimes. A lot of people I talk to I don’t get that from, so I don’t get where that comes from.”

Carolina Panthers even had decided to keep 6th round pick Tony Pike as third QB and waive Hunter Cantwell.

Sources said that practice-squad Cantwell is unlikely to stay.

Carolina Panthers announced this yesterday.

Brandon LaFell, 23-year-old, ranks second in school history. He is having a record of 25 touchdown receptions. He is also third in school with 175 catches and 2,517 yards.

As a senior, LaFell has totaled 792 yards on 57 receptions and had scored eleven touchdowns. Earlier for four years he was with the Tigers.

John Fox, Panthers coach, said LaFell is a big, speedy receiver. He added further, “A lot of those guys have added some juice to that unit, and we’ll see how they do when we start playing real football.”

With this sign LaFell becomes the 9th of the Panthers’ ten draft choices to sign with only QB Jimmy Clausen.

The two signings are Rookie second-round draft pick Jimmy Clausen and the third-round pick Brandon LaFell.

With this, this year Carolina Panthers rookies have their hands full.

With Jimmy’s name it is sure that all the Panther fans jumped for joy. He is all the way at #48 and had a great career at the Notre Dame. There Jimmy thrived in pro-style offense.

Some published reports in the media also says that Jimmy has a good chance to overtake Mat Moore for the starting spot this season.

Well, before all these takes place, he need to sign in the deal first before the training camp starts. By many he was projected to go in the top 10.

After the signing of quarterback-turned-wide receiver Armanti Edwards recently the Panthers is now seen to have narrowed their “yet to sign” list to two.

The second-round draft pick Jimmy Clausen and also the third-round pick Brandon LaFell. One thing is interesting here. It seems as if up to this point Carolina Panthers have been signing the draft picks in a reverse order.

It is still unclear whether this trend will continue. It is also not clear that will LaFell be the next to sign after Clausen.

Well, the end result is to get both the guys signed and also in the training camp and so the signing order has no significance.

Armanti Edwards will also be getting around $710,000 in signing bonuses. Edwards will be a receiver at the Panthes and he could also return kicks.

The club even traded next year’s second-round choice to New England. They did this just to get an extra third-round choice in the month of April to take the speedy Edwards 89th overall.

In NCAA Division I history Armanti Edwards is the only player to pass for 10,000 yards and rush for 4,000. Edwards has the record of leading the Mountaineers to twice national championships and also a monumental upset of the Michigan.

This sign of the Panthers leaves only two out of ten draft picks unsigned.

This month the starting outside linebacker participate in optional workouts under an injury waiver. On Tuesday he had fallen to the turf while backpedalling. He had grabbed the same right knee.

He had to walk off the field after that and he even didn’t return back to the practice.

According to the spokesman of the team, he was undergoing tests and on Wednesday they could know more about the situation.

On Tuesday one more signing was there. It was starting cornerback Richard Marshall. The signing is for one year and the deal is at $1.759 million tender.

The Carolina Panthers would not have so many contract issues as it is having this year. Well, one this is very clear that this is not an ordinary year if we keep in mind the uncertainty over the league’s labor future.

It has been seen that always the Panthers have been proactive in locking up youths for contract extensions. Combination of events that leads to the lack of labor deal beyond this season means they have not yet, or also they may not until the season is completed.

By this it means that the core players of Carolina Panthers are kept waiting for the new deals. The smart players do understand the realities of business. They know that the owner Jerry Richardson is going to take some tough step this time.

One of the agents said, “all deals are on hold with Carolina.”

Left tackle Jordan Gross said, “This year more than any I’ve ever seen, the business is rearing its head.” He had went with a 2-year quest for long-term deal.

He further said, “With Mr. Richardson being at the spot he’s at in the negotiating team and all that, I think he’s got to walk the walk and talk the talk. And he’s doing that.”

Richard Marshall, the starting cornerback of Carolina Panthers, is now again on the field after he missed the minicamp as he was a bit upset upon his contract situation.

This week he will be taking part in the voluntary workouts at Bank of America Stadium.

Marshall said on Tuesday that he has not signed his one-year tender that is worth $1.759 million. He adds further that he said that he will do so before the training camp starts.

He is one of those NFL players who have four years of service and who would have been unrestricted free agents if their owners had not decided after this season to end the collective bargaining agreement. This move of his has put different rules in place and this has left him a restricted free agent with few options.

According to coach John Fox, Richard Marshall is now in good shape despite he skipped the offseason conditioning program of the team.

It seems that Steve Smith, the wide receiver of Carolina Panthers, is getting encouraged by the club’s new look.

Smith was asked about the Panther’s new fleet of QBs competing to replace Jake Delhomme, then he said, “I think change could be good… Time will tell.”

He added further, “Change can be good” when he was asked about the new receivers coach Tyke Tolbert.

Smith’s 31st birthday is nearby and he represents the last of old guard of Panthers. He along with left tackle Jordan Gross and kicker John Kasay are the only left over players from the Super Bowl XXXVIII appearance of Carolina Panthers after the 2003 season.

Occasionally he had chafed under Richard Williamson, the former assistant, old-school teaching style, but he said that he had liked what he’s seen so far from Tolbert. Smith said that he is encouraged by what he had heard about Tolbert.

He said, “I have a great amount of respect for coach Williamson, he’s been my coach for a very long time,” Smith said. “But at the same time, I’m learning quite a bit from Tyke. He’s doing things a little bit differently. Not to take anything away from Rich, but it’s different, and some things I’ve got to get used to. I feel like it will be a good fit.”
