Carolina Panthers gets ready for season’s second half and some decision have been made by Coach John Fox to go to the bullpen again. Starter Matt Moore is still taking time to become fit from his shoulder injury.

Fox has come up with second round draft pick Jimmy Clausen. He will leading the team into Tampa Bay against Bucs. This is the 4th start of Clausen this season against the most opportunistic defenses in NFL.

Clausen, product of Notre Dame, was ineffective in the 3 prior starts and also in couple of relief appearances. He has completed 48.6 percent of his pass attempts and has got only throwing for one touchdown. Against Tampa Bay his 4 picks are likely to rise which is tied for the lead in the league with 14 interceptions. He had also got slow start in college and had only won one of his first 6 collegiate starts.

People agree that Carolina Panthers do have good offensive with Steve Smith, David Gettis and DeAngelo Williams. Well, Clausen is surely be seeing pressure this Sunday from the Buccaneers. So, Carolina Panthers need to depend on defense as well as special teams unist.

However, Clausen seems determined of playing better to build up positive response. He had commented recently, “hopefully, the speed of the game will slow down for me. It did a little bit when I went in there last Sunday, and hopefully, it will keep slowing down for me each and every game.”

Carolina Panthers coach John Fox waffles on QB Jimmy Clausen recently. Clausen had struggled with ball handling.

On Monday, the coach said in a press conference that whether Matt Moore or Jimmy Clausen will be the quarterback is early to say.

He said, “We’ll evaluate that as we move forward this week.”

Jimmy Clausen was 9 of 22 for 61 yards in the loss against Bears by 23-6. Moore too over Jimmy and he was 5 for 10 for 35 yards. Earlier he was replaced as started this season after the second game.

Well, it is just two games this season for Clausen and the move of his following a loss to Tampa Bay is too early. But there was no choice for Carolina Panthers after a preseason of futility with Matt Moore running the offense.

Still, Veteran tackle Jeff Otah is sidelined due to knee issue and the offense continues. There is no update from Fox for veteran wide receiver Steve Smith, who is suffering from ankle sprain and missed the loss to Chicago.

Panthers then traded for Louis Leonard, Tank Tyler and Hollis Thomas.

Leonard and Tyler did showed some upside during their first season with the club. On the other hand Hollis Thomas never sustained an injury and he in fact turned to be in the best season of his career when he was in the Philadelphia Eagles.

Other players who are returning this season from the previous one are Corvey Irvin, Derek Landri, Andre Neblett, Ed Johnson and Nick Hayden.

It seems that the Panthers have increased the competition on the offensive line. The club has recently signed Missouri guard Kurtis Gregory. He has been signed as an undrafted free agent.

In the rookie class this year Gregory was one of the most accomplished offensive linemen and also the most experienced one. During his final 3 seasons at Missouri he started at rgight guard. He also had memorable junior season. Then the Tigers topped in the top ten nationally in scoring offense and also total offense.

May be the three years strong game tape were less than expected by Gregory, but it was enough for the Panthers to track him.

Gregory said, “The Panthers showed the most interest towards the end of the draft.”

When his agent Joseph Wright recomemnded for Carolina Panthers, he made immediate decision of joining the club.

He said, “[The first couple weeks] were hectic, just trying to learn a new offense and new plays and different techniques.”

Thomas Davis, linebacker of Carolina Panthers, need to undergo surgery. In seven months this his the second time he has torn anterior cruciate ligament.

In an email on Friday the Agent Todd France said that Davis will be having his right knee surgery in Charlotte. He added further in the mail that Pat Connor, the Carolina Panthers team doctor, will be performing the surgery.

Davis had been contemplated having the surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews in Alabama.

On November 8th game at the New Orleans Davis first tore his anterior cruciate ligament. After the surgery he was making speedy recovery, but he injured it again on Tuesday while backpedalling in a non-contact drill.

However, Carolina Panthers, have not ruled out Davis returning late this season.

QB Matt Moore is not going to waste the opportunity. He had embraced moving to a starter from backup after former starter Jake Delhomme was released in March.

He did not had any ill feeling toward Delhomme. He said that he felt bad when Np. 17 was let go. Well, this is his golden opportunity to become the man.

Moore said about starting, “(It’s) not really pressure.” He added further, “Just looking forward to the chance (to start), and Jake had a lot of good years here, and I’m looking forward to doing the same. So, I’m just excited and hoping to start off on the right foot this season.”

Moore very well knows that he has perform as the earlier starter because the club is committed to him for only one season for $3+ million. He said that his approach is different this season. As a starter he has a 6-2 record.

Moore said, “I don’t think I have changed personally, but I guess my approach has changed slightly… I’m a little more detailed and a little more enhanced in that way.”

In 2007 Moore went underdraft out of Oregon State. Also he had advanced to mentor point. He had guided young players like rookie QBs Jimmy Clausen, Tony Pike and also Hunter Cantwell, the second-year pro.

There was some good great news of the Panthers recently. LB Thomas Davis ran a 4.47-second 40 yard dash.

If we consider some of the previous performance, this was slightly off. A fact to be noticed here. Davis had a surgery just few months before to repair a torn ACL.

Well, he surprised everyone with his speedy recovery and doing more in post-draft minicamp than what was expected from him.

However, it was a good indication that Davis is almost 100 percent back from his blown knee last November.

It is a good news for a defense because it needs to be solid in the back seven to make up for the transition happening in the front four. With his being fit, it seems like he is taking challenges seriously.

He said that last Monday he turned in the time. He also mentioned that he is not far off his previous record.

He best was during the offseason last year.

The Panthers had started the trade with strong safety Chris Harris to the Chicago Bears last Tuesday.

The club has got in the deal the reserve linebacker Jamar Williams. Harris goes back to Chicago within 3 years after he was traded to the Panthers. He was deemed expendable following his struggle in 2009 and the Panthers had added depth at safety.

Marty Hurney, the general manager of Carolina, said: “Chris is going back to an organization where he has familiarity and we wish him the very best… He has done everything we have asked and has been a valuable member of our team. Right now we have some young safeties who will get the opportunity to continue to earn playing time.”

Harris now joins the starters Jake Delhomme, Muhsin Muhammad, Brad Hoover, Damione Lewis, Na’il Diggs and Maake Kemoeatu. All of them have moved on because of Panthers’ youth movement. The club had even let Julius Peppers, the Pro Bowl defensive end, leave in free agency.

Williams, 25, had played all the sixteen games in each past 3 seasons with the Bears. Last season he had a career-high of 43 tackles. Well, he was not able to win a starting job with the Lance Briggs in front of him. He was finally a restricted free agent.

Hurney said, “Jamar is a versatile linebacker who brings experience, athletic ability and can help on special teams as well as compete for time at linebacker.”

In the draft 2010 Jimmy Clausen finally was selected with the 48th pick by the Carolina Panthers. On Friday night Clausen said he is thrilled with his landing spot in the NFL.

In an interview on ESPN Clausen said, “I couldn’t have gone to a better place than Carolina.”

According to projection, Jimmy Clausen was suppose to go top 10 picks and was also seen as the second-best Quarterback in this 2010 draft class.

But it was a slide down for him and he finally ending when the Carolina Panthers made their first pick. Panthers were in need of QB.

Clausen said, “It’s a great situation for me… I just talked to the coach and he said it’s pretty much the same verbage (as the offense he played in at Notre Dame).”

Last season Carolina Panthers cut QB Jake Delhomme and enter in the next season with unproven Matt Moore.

Clausen said that during his sliding down in the draft board, his family was very supportive. He said, “Obviously I wanted to go as early as I could, but this is a great situation for me.”

Prior to the 2010 draft, recently, if any one had talked to the fans of Carolina Panthers, there was almost one unanimous lock found among all of them. It is that the Panthers would be selecting a defensive tackle and moreover to take one early.

The draft was just the opposite. Carolina Panthers did not chose the crop of defensive tackles. not All the fans had a believe that defensive line was a weakness for the team last year and it was solidified after the signing of Hollis Thomas to fill the gap at NT.

From the last years defensive line there is only one solitary starter returning back. It is DE Tyler Brayton and it is said that the remaining spots will be filled with DE Charles Johnson, NT Louis Leonard and DT Tank Tyler. Leonard and Tyler were being traded for during the last years season. However, from a broader view, it appears that the piecemeal defensive line will be a headache this season for Carolona Panthers.
