Thomas Davis, linebacker of Carolina Panthers, need to undergo surgery. In seven months this his the second time he has torn anterior cruciate ligament.

In an email on Friday the Agent Todd France said that Davis will be having his right knee surgery in Charlotte. He added further in the mail that Pat Connor, the Carolina Panthers team doctor, will be performing the surgery.

Davis had been contemplated having the surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews in Alabama.

On November 8th game at the New Orleans Davis first tore his anterior cruciate ligament. After the surgery he was making speedy recovery, but he injured it again on Tuesday while backpedalling in a non-contact drill.

However, Carolina Panthers, have not ruled out Davis returning late this season.

There was some good great news of the Panthers recently. LB Thomas Davis ran a 4.47-second 40 yard dash.

If we consider some of the previous performance, this was slightly off. A fact to be noticed here. Davis had a surgery just few months before to repair a torn ACL.

Well, he surprised everyone with his speedy recovery and doing more in post-draft minicamp than what was expected from him.

However, it was a good indication that Davis is almost 100 percent back from his blown knee last November.

It is a good news for a defense because it needs to be solid in the back seven to make up for the transition happening in the front four. With his being fit, it seems like he is taking challenges seriously.

He said that last Monday he turned in the time. He also mentioned that he is not far off his previous record.

He best was during the offseason last year.

He is Brandon Jamison, 27 years old from Hopkins. He was arrested on Sunday at about 3:50 a.m. in the 4400 block of Devine Street. He was then making a skidding, sliding turn at a speed of about 70 mph.

He was stopped by police and when his car was searched, police found a loaded .40 Ruger handgun under the driver’s seat. It even had 10 bullets in it.

He has been charged under city law. Both the charges on Jamison are misdemeanors. He has been held in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Brandon Jamison graduated from West Georgia and is not listed as an active player on the NFL’s Web site. Jamison played in 3 games for the Atlanta Falcons in the year 2006 and in 19 for the Carolina’s in the years 2006 and 2007.

On Tuesday Dan Morgan, who was released by the Panthers in February, decided to retire. Morgan had signed with the Saints, but after training with the team to rehab his injuries Morgan wasn’t seeing the progress that he had wanted, and at some point retirement came into the picture.

“It definitely was not an overnight decision,” said Morgan “It was just waking up in the morning, the retirement thing was in my head, and it wasn’t going away. I’ve never felt like that before.”

Many questioned Morgan’s return last season after he suffered his sixth concussion which ended the season for him. Coming back put Morgan at risk of another concussion, but he suffered a leg injury which again put him out for the rest of the season. It is good to see that Morgan made the decision to walk away from the game while he still could. You have to admire his heart and conviction, but at some point you have to call it quits.

It is sad to see such a great player like Morgan, who was the Panther’s first draft choice in 2001, have to struggle with such injury problems. Morgan’s most memorable performance was probably his 25 tackles in Superbowl XXXVIII. In any case Morgan ultimately made the right decision in retiring, realizing it was time to call it quits.

Who is Jon Beason?

Jon Beason was selected 25th overall by the Carolina Panthers in last years NFL draft. He played college ball at the University of Miami. He was born in Miramar, Florida. He is currently 23 years old.

Earlier in his career, Jon Beason played the Fullback position, rushing for 811 and scoring 12 touchdowns his senior year in high school. He accepted an offer to play at the University of Miami. Immediately, he was shifted over to the defensive side of the ball. By the end of his college career, he had racked up 187 tackles, one interception, and 3.5 sacks.

Destination: Carolina

As a rookie for the Panthers, Beason had an immediate impact on the game. He solidified the linebacker group and stepped up as the leader of the defense. He finished the season with 140 tackles, which lead the team.

Onwards

Jon Beason looks to take the momentum he had from last season to the new upcoming season. I predict he will have a similar season to last years, but with fewer tackles. Remember, last year’s defense was not the same Carolina defense we are used to seeing. With improvements made the defense over the off-season, Beason will most likely have less opportunities to make tackles, but more opportunities to make game-changing plays (sacks, interceptions). Hopefully, he will be able to lead the defense to play at a high level this year.
