Not only the Panthers have not signed any players but there also have not been any reports of them visiting with any since 1 March. Anyway, not much was expected of the Carolina Panthers.
Technically speaking the team has all 22 starters that has been returning from last season but the future of defensive end Julius Peppers and cornerback Ken Lucas are in limbo.
A $16.7 million has been tied up in their franchise tag. The Carolina Panthers are a tight fit under NFL salary cap. They are restructuring contracts of a few of the players. Moreover, at some point, they will also look to bring in a veteran defensive lineman and a veteran offensive lineman for depth.
Carolina Panthers attempted, though not successfully, to trade Lucas to the Detroit Lions but he vetoed the deal. Some is going to be done with Peppers. Lucas still, till date, can be traded but if there are no takers, look for the team to eventually release him to free up at may be a $2.37 million in salary cap space.
