The Panthers filled another opening. Opening on coach John Fox’s staff by hiring Brian Baker as defensive line coach recently.

Baker had spent his past 3 seasons in the same position with St. Louis. He also worked for Minnesota, Detroit and San Diego by coaching the defensive line and linebackers.

Baker replaced Sal Sunseri. Sunseri left last month to become an assistant at Alabama. He was one of four defensive aides to leave the Panthers.

Panthers since have hired Ron Meeks as defensive co-ordinator, Richard Smith, the linebackers coach and Ron Milus to coach the secondary.

They will try to shore up a defence that allowed 30 or even more points in 6 of its final 7 games, including a 33-13 loss to Arizona in the playoffs.
