In continuing with my three part series on possible Panthers Hall of Famer’s, the next player that I’m going to look at is the only remaining original Panther: kicker John Kasay.
Kasay came into the league in 1991, playing for the Seattle Seahawks. Then in 1995 Kasay moved over to Carolina for their inaguaral season. Kasay has built up a solid career in his last 17 seasons, connecting on 358 of 442 field goals, for an 81% completion percentage. That puts Kasay at number 14 on the NFL’s all time leading scorers list with 1,504 total points, including extra points. Morten Anderson is number one at 2,544.

While Kasay does have some pretty respectable numbers, there is only one kicker in the NFL hall of fame: Jan Stenerud. Stenerud connected on 373 of 558 field goals in 12 seasons, and while his completion percentage isn’t that great, what is remarkable is that he has able to rack up that many points in just twelve seasons. Assuming Kasay, who’s 38, plays another two seasons with Carolina, he’s not going to connect on as many field goals because he has lost leg strenght, meaning Kasay’s numbers aren’t going to move much.
Even if Kasay passes Stenerud, he is still going to be at the bottom of the list to get into the Hall, just because kickers never get in, and there is one other particular kicker who is still active, Adam Vinatieri, who is going to be a shoe in once he retires. Kasay will definitely be in the Carolina Panthers Hall of Fame, but as for the NFL Hall of Fame, it looks very, very unlikley.
Chance Kasay’s the first Panther’s Hall of Famer: 2%
And fell free to respond to this post and my other posts as well, conversation is always appreciated.
