Preseason game #2 Analysis
August 15, 2008
Quarterbacks
Jake Delhomme- No overthrown balls, all balls thrown were catchable. A few behind the receivers. Throws interception on ball tipped by Jeff King, ball slipped.
Matt Moore- First throw way off base, still has to fine tune his mechanics. 2nd drive makes bad read and gets sac. Should have checked down to Stewart. 3rd down Moore throws another errant incompletion. Another bad throw by Moore, throws ball too far back for Taylor and play ends up losing yards. Another errant throw on 3rd down, received pressure from right side. Ball was still no where near on target. 3rd drive overthrows Chris Hannon. Makes first good throw up high to Dominque Thompson. Overall a very poor peformance by Moore. Back to back over throws of Thompson, first is a little excusable because a pass interference call, 2nd is less. Gotta give major props to Moore on this last play, most QBs would have just fallen on the ball but I like his style he picked it up and got some major yards by tossing it to Birmingham. Moore makes good read but the ball is tipped, intercepted TD Eagles, game over.
Offensive Line
Travelle Wharton does a bad job pulling, and Dwill runs into him. Once again Wharton gets beaten, and DWill gets dropped for a loss.
So far Oline looks bad.
Jordan Gross- flagged for offsides, flagged for offsides again back to back penalties on Gross.
2nd string o line looks absolutely terrible.
Overall all every single offensive line looked bad, the 3rd and 4th stringers couldn’t pick up a blitz and no one looked good. Just a bad performance on all levels.
Running Backs
DeAngelo Williams- Picked up excellent yardage on a screen, made something out of nothing. Made A GREAT cut back for 23 yards. Works well when line gets a push, not so well when line doesn’t open up hole. Making plays on his own. Leaves game with 8 carries for 32 yards.
Jonathan Stewart- 2 runs, no yards so far. Both runs were weak, no blocking, and Stewart didn’t look like he was running hard. More runs of 0-1 yards, no push from the oline, no holes, no gain.
Nick Goings- Some no gainers, and some nice 10 yard runs. Same old same old.
LaBrandon Toefield- Made excellent block in blitz pick up. Crucial fumble in Panther territory. Big 10 yard run-called back on penalty. After back to back runs of 3 yards or less. Another great block on blitz pick up, area he is really shining in so far.
Decori Birmingham- Looked good in the limited action he received. Got a lot of yards after the catch on two key consecutive plays.
Wide Receivers
Moose looks good, he made a big catch in the endzone but Brian Dawkins lead with his helmet and caused him to drop the ball. The officiating is so incredibly bad, Dawkins clearly lead with his helmet on that hit. Hopefully Moose doesn’t have a concussion, that hit looked brutal.
Dominque Thompson- Goes up high to make possesion catch.
Tight Ends
Jeff King makes nice catch, but still has not YAC, doesn’t get first down. Hands of glue again for a check down first down. King another catch in his bread basket, and guess what? He takes it for 7 yards!
Chard Upshaw makes nice catch, runs into referee.
Defensive Line
No push so far in first half, Eagles have excellent blocking and is just stopping everything we’re throwing at them.
Tyler Brayton- Excellent run stop, jumping snap well,
Charles Johnson- flagged for offsides,
Julius Peppers- Made excellent stop in run support, getting constant double teamed.
Gary Gibson is getting one hell of a push on the inside, he looks completely out of breath though. He just slammed some poor offensive linemen down, and when I say slam, I mean he picked him up and slammed him on the ground. Gary Gibson is continuing to get pressure up the middle.
Hilee Taylor- Gets a sack, him and Darwin Walker just collapsed the entire left side on Kolb. Does good job in run support back to back stops.
Linebackers
Donte Curry hit the shit out of DeSean Jackson on a return.
Jon Beason is playing??????? He just hit the hell out of Buckhalter in the backfield
Thomas Davis is exceptionally fast getting to the ball from the back end, blows through the hole.
Landon Johnson hits McNabb on a blitz, forces incompletion. Good hit on Greg Lewis. Another good hit to force an incompletion by LJ.
Tim Shaw- Makes good tackle on punt coverage.
Adam Seward- Comes hard on unblocked blitz, forces incompletion. Breaks up a pass.
Defensivebacks
Ricardo Coclough- Nice hit on Curtis, plays far off and can’t recover most of the time. Bit on a play that would have been a TD but ball was over thrown. Coclough is really lucky DeSean Jackson can’t catch cause he is getting beat by the rookie almost every play. Coclough did a good job of reading the play he has been getting beat with all game, he had an easy pick six but dropped the ball. Does good job staying with Curtis on a post.
Richard Marshall amazing run back on a muff field goal fake……lol Got called for PI. Almost has interception, off of 1 hand.
C.J. Wilson- Gave up way too much space, gave up easy throw on 3rd down, out of position most of plays, gets beat by DeSean Jackson, gives up YAC. Makes excellent pass defensed, borderline pass interference. I don’t know what the stragety is for Wilson, but he is no where near the ball when it’s on his side of the field.
Curtis Deloatch- Almost gets beat deap, lucky as usual ball goes off of Hank Baskett’s facemask.
Dante Wesley- Interception. Loses sight of ball, but does a good job bodying the receiver out of bounds no catch.
Joe Fields- Does a good job sniffing out screen, sees it and comes up to help.
Darren Toney- Got completely torched, the guy just ran right by him for a TD.
Charles Godfrey- Great run support, stopping Westbrook.
Nate Salley- Absolutely terrible misled tackle, the announcers even called him out on it and showed the replay multiple times. Gave up a huge play that went for a touch down. He is really going to get blasted for this one.
Special Teams
Rhys Lloyd isn’t booting it like he was last game, but that’s because of the field conditions and the rain. He still can get it in the 10 though.
Our coverage team has looked a WHOLE lot better so far in the first half. We’ve made excellent plays and contained on both kick offs and punts.
Jason Carter is looking lackluster on returns, and he isn’t getting any help at all. Barely manages to stumble forward before getting pummeled.
