This weekend the training camps of NFL starts. There will be over 2,500 players and 75 among them with ties to Oregon.

This season, the major contributions from 7 QBs would come from four in position.

Matt Moore (Oregon State) of Carolina will be entring the camp as the starter. Last season he was injured, so took over late.

In last final five games this season, ineffective Jake Delhomme threw for 990 yards and 8 touchdowns with one interception.

Now, Delhomme is in Cleveland. He has signed a one-year deal worth $3.043 as restricted free agent and so he has left Moore as the starter.

The offer of the Panthers to him didn’t demonstrate long-term commitment. In 2006 he was an undrafted rookie free agent. This fact did bolster by the selection of Carolina Panthers’ former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen in the April’s draft second round.

Panthers recently announced of a partnership deal with the Norsan Multimedia’s WOLS/106.1 FM La Raza for the broadcast of all its games this season in Spanish.

President of Carolina Panthers, Danny Morrison said: “Our goal is to serve the entire fan base of the Carolina Panthers. As the local and regional Hispanic populations have continued to grow, it is great to now have the opportunity to add our Spanish flagship station – 106.1 La Raza – to the broadcast.”

Both, the North Carolina as well as South Carolina have been ranking consistently since 1990 as two of the fastest-growing states. According to research, the NFL is very popular among both the local and also with the national Hispanic communities.

Morrison said further, “Everyone at Norsan Multimedia is proud to be associated with the Carolina Panthers. We look forward to a successful season that will be shared by the many football fans in the local Hispanic community, who will now experience first-hand the excitement of this great sport. We’ve had many inquiries from customers and listeners about broadcasting the Panthers’ games. Now we’ll be able to fulfill their request,” said Norberto Sanchez, Norsan Multimedia’s CEO. “Our staff is passionate about sports, and we are pleased to transmit our elation to our audience.”

Panthers had all the pieces in perfect place to make a run at last season’s Superbowl until they got whacked 13-33 by the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship game. Was this a case of the Carolina Panthers having an off-night. If not then was it a sign of things to come?

The Carolina Panthers Quarterback Jake Delhomme had 6 turnovers in that game of last season but the organization of the club thought nothing of it apparently, signing Delhomme to a 5-year contract extension.

They have return 21 of 22 starters from 2008 season’s 12-4 squad so this years Carolina Panthers should have similar success. One can bet Carolina +225 to win the NFC South this season.

This year Carolina likes to pound the ball behind a monster offensive line with Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. The offense of Carolina averaged 26 points per game with a philosophy of run-first last season but Delhomme’s turnovers were killers.

He is an accurate passer and also has an excellent leadership skills. He benefits from having a bona fide All-Pro in WR Steve Smith.

According to the conventional wisdom Carolina Panthers is a tough team to play in December. There is some merit to this. The club has gone 21-12 in December and January under John Fox.

In this year 2009, the club better hope conventional wisdom holds just because last years December schedule is a killer.

Now the club will probably be in a position that is well with a record which could be somewhere from 7-5 to 9-3. It depends on the injuries and whether Meeks’ defense works out well.

Tampa Bay will probably, around the NFC South, be nursing a record boasting 3 or 4 wins and will be a spoiler at the best.

It is also believed that this year the Falcons’ defense keeps them grounded, and even they might have in the neighborhood of 5 or 6 wins at this point.

The long snapper of Carolina Panthers, Jason Kyle, for the last 8 seasons, has signed with the New Orleans Saints.

This in fact means that Carolina Panthers will go ahead with their experiment of using one of two rookies i.e. J.J. Jansen or Nick Sundberg. The club brought in three long snappers this off-season, but since then have cut Patrick McDonald.

The club was so tight under the salary cap they it did not made any offer to Kyle, who was an unrestricted free agent.

Jason Kyle had never a bad snap in this 8 seasons. He played in 128 games for the Panthers and 7th most in team history.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis said in a statement, “Jason is a quality veteran player and we saw in him a chance to upgrade our kicking game.” He also added, “I’ve known him since we drafted him in Seattle and going up against him twice a year for the last eight seasons with Carolina, he has always been impressive.”

The Carolina Panthers are still in negotiations with their star defensive end Julius Peppers, who becomes a free agent in 2008, over a contract extension. So the question is, should the Panthers give Peppers the big money contract. If they do decide to pay up the Panthers will most likely make Peppers the highest paid defensive player in the league, but I think Carolina can’t go and throw that kind of money around on a guy who had 2.5 sacks last season.

For whatever reason be it an illness in training camp, or simply a down year, Peppers had an abysmal season last year, barely being able to put together a pass rush, and looking nothing like his usual pro bow self. Because of this bad season, Carolina can’t afford to pay Peppers. Sure it works out if he bounces back and records another 13 sack season, but if he doesn’t? The risk is just too great. Carolina could end up paying franchise money for a player that averages five sacks a season. Yes Peppers does have a career total of 56 sacks in six seasons with the Panthers, but in the NFL its “What have you done for me lately?”

Another reason that I think that Peppers can’t get paid is that not only has Peppers gone 16 games with only 2.5 sacks, but looking back into 2006, he only had 2 sacks in the last seven games of the season. That’s 23 games with only 4.5 sacks. This seems to be overlooked because Peppers had gotten out to such a great start in 2006, recording 11 sacks through the first 10 games, and lots of times, multiple sack games come in clumps, but for whatever reason Peppers cooled down, and it looks like that cooling down might have carried over into 2007. It could just be that Peppers cooled down in 2006, and had a down year in 2007, I hope it’s just that, but by looking at the numbers the Panthers just cannot afford give Peppers the big contract, not yet at least.

Panthers will of course be looking now to get rid their mouths of the bitter taste that has lingered since their not so expected exit from 2008s playoffs. The Panthers will be looking to do so by making a statement against the NFL’s second-hardest schedule.

The club’s 2009 opponents were a combined 151-104-1 in 2008 season having a win percentage of .592, that was 2nd only in difficulty to the Miami Dolphins’ .594.
Yes, the rest of the NFC South was busy all the while for improving their rosters with free agents and first round draft picks where as the Panthers have been forced to sit on their hands because they await for the conclusion to the Julius Peppers saga.

The 4-time Pro Bowler has locked up to about $17 million of the Panther’s salary cap fees from the time being designated as the franchise player this year in February.

1st – Brian Orakpo of Texas — Brian Orakpo is a physical specimen, but can he play football? There is a legitimate concern as to whether he’s Mike Mamula or Terrell Suggs.
2nd – Tyson Jackson of LSU — Tyson Jackson is not as explosive, but with more teams switching to the 3-4, Jackson is in demand. He will be a higher pick than many imagine, based on being perfect for that scheme.
3rd – Robert Ayers of Tennessee — He is the Marlboro County product and has showed that he can rush from inside as well, and he is a late-riser on the draft boards.
4th – Everette Brown of Florida State — Seminoles pass rushers have disappointed before, but Everette Brown has the kind of speed to make it a tantalizing gamble.
5th – Aaron Maybin of Penn State — Aaron Maybin needs to be in the right system, because he is not built to be a 3 down lineman in a 4-3. But he is quick and productive.

The next five of the Carolina Panthers:

Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech; Connor Barwin, Cincinnati; Paul Kruger, Utah; Lawrence Sidbury, Richmond; David Veikune, Hawaii.

Julius Peppers gets the franchise tag Carolina Panthers. It was announced yesterday.
The move was made by the Panthers after they agreed on a new contract with left tackle Jordan Gross. The contract cleared the way for Carolina to use the team’s franchise tag on Julius Peppers. He is having in his credit 141/2 sacks last season but expressed his desire to leave Panthers and also their 4-3 scheme for a team that do not plays 3-4 but a 3-4 defense.

This move by the Carolina Panthers came on the final day for teams to make an application for a franchise designation. This will keeps him under the control of current team for the average salary of the top five NFL players at his position.

Others who are tagged franchise apart from Peppers yesterday were cornerback Dunta Robinson of Houston, linebacker Leroy Hill of Seattle, tight end Bo Scaife of Tennessee, and offensive tackle Max Starks of Pittsburgh.

The most intriguing move of Carolina involves Peppers, which is the second overall pick in the 2002 draft. His good season followed a 2007 in which he had just managed 21/2 sacks.
In the non-exclusive franchise tag rules, Carolina offered him a 1-year guaranteed deal that was worth $16.7 million. This will immediately count against the salary cap.
